Spain Receives More Tourists and More Spending, but Tourist Apartments Sell Fewer Nights

The latest data from the INE presents a particularly interesting picture for owners and managers of tourist accommodations. In August 2026, Spain received 12.3 million international tourists, a 9.2% increase compared to the previous year, while total spending reached 17.838 billion euros, also a 9.2% increase.

Spending on accommodation grew by 9.4%.

More Tourism Does Not Automatically Mean More Nights in Apartments

At the same time, overnight stays in tourist apartments decreased by 1.7%. The price index rose by 5.8% and the average stay was 5.03 days, with a year-on-year decline of 8.36%.

The takeaway is not that the market is worse overall, but that the growth in arrivals and spending is not translating in the same way across all types of accommodation.
