Foreign tourists spend 10.9% more in Spain: the question is not whether to raise prices, but where
International tourism spending is growing faster than arrivals. This is a signal to review prices, but not an order to raise them.
What the data says
In July 2026, total international tourism spending in Spain reached €18.218 billion, a 10.9% increase from the previous year. The average daily spending reached €218, a 3.7% increase.
- Andalusia: +23.4%
- Catalonia: +13.0%
- Balearic Islands: +8.3%
The trap of raising prices without considering occupancy
Let’s assume a property sells 10 nights at €180.
10 × €180 = €1,800
If the ADR increases by 8%, the price goes up to €194.40.
If this increase causes it to sell only 9 nights:
9 × €194.40 = €1,749.60
Result: a bill of €50.40 less despite having raised the price.
What a VUT should review
- Pickup compared to the same period last year.
- Actual ADR compared to 2025.
- Automatic discounts.
- Minimum stay.
- Weight of foreign markets in their bookings.
- Margin per stay, not just rate per night.
The INE data is a signal to review prices. Especially in Andalusia, Catalonia, and the Balearic Islands, it is advisable to check if the local demand allows for defending a higher ADR without deteriorating occupancy.
